Cubs vs. White Sox

About 'A Crosstown Century'

The Wright brothers rocked the world not quite three years earlier. The first Roosevelt was president. The first Daley was a toddler. The American League was five years old and had managed to convince the National League champion to play in a "world's series" for only two of the previous three seasons.

But this third-ever "world's series" was something that Major League Baseball wouldn't have for at least another century: An all-Chicago series.

Now heavier-than-air flight is routine (and even annoying). That first Roosevelt has gone, leaving behind a road in Chicago and a face on a mountain. That toddler named Daley? He ruled the city, died, and now his kid is mayor.

Most importantly, ChicagoSports.com and Chicago Tribune Subscriber Advantage are bringing you the 1906 versions of the White Sox and Cubs (known then as the Nationals), their respective paths to the pennant, their meeting in the World Series and the world that surrounded them.

Every day we'll give you a brief description of what was in the paper 100 years ago, along with a link to what's happening in 2006. For Subscriber Advantage members, you can read the full text of all the Tribune's coverage from 1906. We'll also give you other headlines that appeared in the sports world and in the rest of the world, and we'll do this daily until the 100th anniversary of the last game of the World Series. We'll have additional features and offers as the season goes on, such as a ticket giveaway for this year's Cubs-Sox series, and we'll alert you to them as they happen.

This special content feature has been produced exclusively for Subscriber Advantage members, courtesy of ChicagoSports.com.
