Cubs vs. White Sox

Who's who

Some names that don't appear on the 1906 rosters of the Cubs and White Sox, alphabetical by last name. Names will be added as the season progresses. The list:

Charles Comiskey: Owner and founder of the Chicago American League ball club. His team snapped an 88-year championship drought on the 74th anniversary of his death.

Danny Green: Career Chicago baseball player, spending the first half of his career with the Cubs and the second half with the White Sox.

President Johnson: Not American presidents Lyndon B. or Andrew, but American League president Ban Johnson. Johnson's domineering personality was key in the rapid rise of the American League from minor status in 1900 to rival of the 27-year-old National League in 1903. Johnson's headquarters were in Chicago and he refused on more than one occasion to move the league offices to New York. He was also a close friend of Charles Comiskey.

Manager Lajoie: Napoleon Lajoie, Hall-of-Fame player-manager for Cleveland, then nick-named the Naps after their manager.

Manager Mack: Connie Mack, Hall-of-Fame manager of the defending American League champion Philadelphia Athletics.

Jack McCormick: Former boxer whom Cubs owner Charles Murphy provided when manager Frank Chance requested a trainer.

Manager McGraw: John McGraw, Hall-of-Fame manager of the New York Giants, the Cubs' chief rival.

Charles Murphy: Owner of the Chicago National League ball club from 1906-1913. The most successful owner of the team ever, if you equate success with National League pennants (four) and World Series titles (two).

Rugar: No first name given, a pitcher and Chicago native who did well in spring training but was the odd man out on a very talented Sox staff.
